Muncaster CastleThis 13th century castle is in part built on Roman foundations. It is reputedly haunted and counts Tom Fool (a wicked, murderous, jester) amongst the guests who outstayed their welcome! There are extensive grounds and a large owl sanctuary with species from all over the World. Situated on the A595 near Ravenglass(Grid Ref. 54 20N 03 24W)

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway England's oldest steam narrow-gauge railway running for seven miles from the Roman port of Ravenglass (on the A595) through Eskdale including a stop at the restored and working Muncaster Water Mill.

The Sellafield Visitors Centre (Seascale near Whitehaven) Sellafield is a vast site operated by British Nuclear Fuels and receives spent plutonium and uranium from plants in several countries for reprocessing. The Visitor Centre provides the answers to all your questions about nuclear power with interactive scientific experiments and displays. Entry is free.
Workington This industrial town is the commercial centre of West Cumbria and the surrounding region is scattered with the relics of the now defunct coal and iron mining and associated industries. The towns steel-rolling mills still supply rails to railways in Britain and overseas.
