Cars of the Stars Museum(Keswick) A collection of vehicles from both the US and Britain which have featured in major films and on TV. Items include The Batmobile, FAB1 Rolls Royce, Back to the Future DeLorean, James Bond Collection, Knightrider's K.I.T.T., Herbie and many more.
Pencil Factory and Museum(Keswick) The history of graphite mining in Cumberland and the secrets of getting the lead into a pencil. Audio/visual presentations and shop.
Threlkeld Mining Museum(near Threlkeld) Situated in a vast disused quarry is this collection of heavy mining machines (steam and oil-engined navvies/excavators and tippers) and industrial railway locomotives and wagons. Indoor visitor centre/mining museum, plenty of space to picnic, explore and enjoy the peace and quite of this once busy industrial site. Situated on the B5322 which links the A591 with the A66 east of Keswick. The entrance to the quarry is next to the remains of the bridge which once carried the railway over the B5322 into Threlkeld Station. Open March to October. Details (017687) 79747 (day) .... Wordsworth House(Cockermouth) The birthplace of poet William Wordsworth situated in the main street of Cockermouth now in the care of the National Trust.
Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre(Lowther near Penrith) Situated in the Walled Garden of Lowther Castle with flying demonstrations. Open March to October. Tea and crafts shop.
Wetheriggs Country Pottery(Clifton Dykes near Penrith) Established in 1855 this steam-powered pottery is scheduled as a National Industrial Monument. A large site with museum, extensive shop, pottery workshops, tea rooms and restaurant and a conservation site for several species of newt. Details (01768) 899121.
Lowther Leisure and Wildlife Park (Hackthorpe near Penrith) Family fun park with rides, boating lake, circus and other attractions. Situated off A6 about 4 miles south of Penrith.
Ullswater Steamers Operate a service between Glenridding at the southern tip of the lake to Pooley Bridge in the north via Howtown at roughly the mid-point on the eastern shore. The main A592 road between Windermere and Penrith through the Kirkstone Pass skirts the west shore for most of the length of the lake.
Dalemain (A592 SW of Penrith) An imposing Georgian facade greets the visitor to this stately home with earlier Elizabethan parts and even older origins. Inside there are museum displays, a restaurant in the Medieval Hall and outside the 16th. century great barn houses a collection of old farming machinery, blacksmith's and saddler's shop. Gardens include a large collection of old varieties of rose and many other rare plants. Details (017684) 86450.
BUTTERMERE A picturesque small lake and village close to the foot of the Honister Pass west of Keswick and accessed through Borrowdale.
